I believe in the creative power within us, being mainly a result of living our dreams, going for what makes sense in our lifes. Although, few years ago I was still far from recognizing this statement ...

Fotografin Ximena Hoyos

My name is Ximena Hoyos and I proudly come from one of the highest and most welcoming places in the world: La Paz, Bolivia. Three years ago I moved to Germany, I guess never realizing that this change would not only mean learning a new language and my husband's culture but also, and most of all, learning how to find my dreams.

It took me a while to find out what I really wanted; it meant a lot of reading, researching, changing my career and growing; all this combined with life's most common but also most touching events - like overcoming a strong disease and losing my loving mom. No, it was not always easy but I guess my soul kept restless; until the day when my husband came home with a "basics on photography" book - in German! -; at a time when that language was still very challenging to me. He simply said: "I know you love photography ..."

Ever since I can't stop smiling, learning and working to support this dream. My routine is now flavoured with tons of photography books and German-Spanish dictionaries. It's been over a year now and I enjoy every moment I have the chance to search for light, colour, movement and souls; and, of course, my German has also improved. I knew it then, I had found it!

The day Melanie John - Project Manager at the IHK Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg - asked me to take the photos for the opening of the German Global Entrepreneurship Week, I realized how strong wishes, engagement and hard passionate work can be.
On November 13th 2009 I headed to the "Haus der Wirtschaft" in Stuttgart with my bag full of camera, butterflies and pure joy. As I made it through the impressive stairway, I kept telling myself: "Xime, you made it. Your first official photography job." That day meant the world to me!

I was really happy to be part of this event, picturing all these amazing people: speakers, on one side, with their motivational talks, helping, teaching; and participants, on the other side, eyes wide opened, hungry to learn new ways of facing life and the future.
What impressed me the most is that I had become myself, in a way, part of this event as a new entrepreneur: a self-taught photographer on the process of self-employment.

My path has just began. I keep learning and creating and I sure hope that my work will also be useful somewhen to my people and country. I already have some projects in mind which I'll be happy to start soon in Bolivia.

Do I believe in dreams? Absolutely! William A. Ward once said: "If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it." After all this time, I know that what makes sense in my life will always be anything that brings me Joy, Bliss and Freedom.

To all the extraordinary people in my life: My husband Marc, my dad, Melanie John, my family and dear friends: thank you all for your support and for believing in me!
